Decorating With Things You Already Have

Tight Story

Bruno Mars

I'm not usually into music that's on the radio, but by golly Molly, Bruno Mars is killin it. How have I not noticed this before? Forget the movie, the only thing Twilight has going for itself is this song on the Soundtrack. Sorry Team Jacob/Bella/Pale Guy..

Making My Week

1. Mindy Kaling's Book: can't put it down.. and going to see her this Wednesday!
2. She & Him Christmas Album: on repeat.. is it too early to start listening to Christmas music?
3/4. Bruno Mars: how have I not noticed how attractive he is?
5. Turban Hat: I scored one of these a few months ago, and have been wearing it non-stop.. Shameless hipster move on my part...
6. Smith's Rosebud Salve: along with the cold weather comes unsightly chapped lips- my only salvation.
7. Overpriced Starbucks Holiday Drinks: five bucks for a grande, but I crave them in epic proportions.
8. Chunky Sweater: I'm still looking for the perfect one- suggestions?
9. Black Opaque Tights: salvaging my shorts from summer by adding these basics is not only thrifty, but adorable.
10. Pine-Scented Candles: another holiday staple- it's as if I have a tree in my apartment..

Bedrooms

I live in a studio, so the concept of a "bedroom" seems a bit foreign to me. I want to utilize the functionality of a studio space while still maintaining a "bedroom" feel where my bed it. How cute are these? Especially the LOVE headboard!

Song of the Day

Mmm, Avett Brothers. If you don't know who they are- get there. Rooted from North Carolina, these guys are folk/rock/country/pop at its best. Their latest album was produced by Rick Rubin, they are the nicest guys in town and are genuinely talented. If you ever get a chance to see them live, I strongly suggest. Enjoy!

1. I didn't really catch the stacked gold jewelry trend until recently when I got a chunky gold watch. I like the juxtaposition of delicate bangles with heavy chains, allowing basics (skinny jeans, turtleneck, etc) some flair. I've always loved big rings, especially on my pointer finger. These would all suffice.
2. Oxfords: Yeah, I had a pair two years ago when they first became trendy again, and never wore them. I'm willing to give them a go around with tights, full skirts and a sweater. Maybe even those high socks. Zooey Deschanel ain't go nothin on me.
3. I have been wanting an envelope clutch for the LONGEST TIME and now for fall, leopard seems more than appropriate. American Apparel has some cute ones, but I'm looking for one with a big more pizazz- any suggestions?
4. Knee High Socks: always a favorite. They're perfect with boots, but I've gotten a little bit more adventurous and worn them with my brown booties. How do you style yours?
5. I finally need to wear a scarf in LA! I'm WAY too excited about it. Banana Republic always has the best ones, plus the quality of them is superb.
6. Mac's Ruby Woo Lipstick: Since dying my hair auburn, I've been really into wearing darker makeup. This is my go to red- it stays on all day, is a perfect matte substance and looks great on fair skin.
7. Jeffery Campbell T Strap Wedges: Kinda pricey, but I think I'm willing to dish out the cash for a pair of these pretties. Dresses, skirts, maybe even cut off jeans if I'm feeling sassy? Super versatile, plus I've heard they're actually kind of comfortable.
8. Essie Forrest Green Polish: Essie hands down makes the best polish. It lasts, shines and comes in the best shades. As a newfound ginger, I'm embracing green with open arms.

Fallin'

Well, I adore fall more than any other season, and recently, LA has changed it's perpetual 70 degree weather to a chillier, scarf wearing 60. I love this city, but miss seasons. North Carolina, you are still my heart. I found these cute little diy masks just in time for halloween that you can print using this link. Happy Wednesday!

Song of the Day

Ooh, love my some Laura Marling. Her soft, haunting voice only makes this cold, fall day more mysterious. And by mysterious I mean working, camping out at Starbucks and wearing boots. Her two albums are awesome. If you don't know her. Get there. Now.

October Desktop!

Head over to Tabitha Emma for her adorable desktop backgrounds. I've used the one above as mine. Can't wait for November's!

Song of the Day

I'm sure a lot of you know about Janelle's latest album, The Arch Android, but before that she was still rockin the androgynous black and white get up, pompadour hair, and soulful moves. This girl knows how to move a crowd. Definitely on repeat today!

Apartment Therapy

I recently moved into a new apartment, and now that I have complete control of it, there are so many design options I want to explore. A leather couch, modern lamp and poufs add a bit of sophistication, while the Jonathan Adler pillows and rug add a dash of quirk. I need a new duvet and shower curtain and I've found that the Urban Outfitter companies (Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters) always have the best selection. Plus they're significantly more affordable than places like Crate and Barrel or Z Gallerie. The only things missing are my beloved Voluspa candles, a turntable for some sounds and an old school Nintendo for game nights. C'est Voila!

Seating Chart

I desperately need furniture! I have a bed in my apartment, and a table and chairs. Ideally, I'd fit a couch and two lounge chairs next to my TV. And if possible, I want that pink couch and fluffy chair above. My birthday is January 10th. xo

Song of the Day

As a new feature on here, I'm going to post new songs daily. I listen to music all day, everyday, and there's always one that I can't get out of my head. There are so many great artists I've found that need some more exposure! What kind of music would you like featured?

I was already sold on her voice, but Kimbra's style and videos sealed the deal for me. She's 21, soulful, catchy, and sounds good live. I'm sold. I tend to sway towards female vocalists, so when I was looking for more male driven bands, etc, I naturally found another foreign female soul singer (she's from New Zealand). So much for branching out. Her album came out Tuesday, and you can check it out here.

Roomspiration

This apartment kills me. The books, the cameras, furniture, MIRRORS- the Mirrors! My new place is very vintage (it has a built in vanity and fireplace) but it's lacking the decorative detail. Taking notes from these pictures faux show.

Daydream Lily for Element

The photos were taken with a diana, which first grabbed my attention, but the clothes itself are actually pretty cute. Daydream Lily is a cute blog, but I never knew she had exceeded herself by teaming up with Element to create a line. The shorts are my favorite. And maybe the bag. What do you think?

Beach Time

Oh Los Angeles. I stayed in town to work, only to be plagued with 97 degree weather and swass. Despite the heat, I got my tan on by sitting outside for twenty minutes, and was able to pull out my gem sandals. I don't know about you, but Wildfox put together a pretty spot on itemized collage of essentials for a hot day. The only thing missing? Mexican Coke.

Making My Week

Last week I snatched a pair of J Brand's "Eve" high-wasted jeans for a pretty little 15 bucks. If you live in LA, check out places like Crossroads and Wasteland for great barely used designer jeans, vintage t's and bags. I sold some clothes and then reimbursed myself with the jeans. I had to have them altered, but I still wear them with my chunky heels, a silk blouse and blown out hair. Using Rachel Zoe, Farrah Fawcett and Jane Birkin as inspirations, this week has been filled with gold jewelry, feathery hair and aviators. I don't have internet at my new apartment yet, so I've been watching a lot of Gossip Girl and Sex and the City (guilty pleasures, no need for judgement). For anyone who is a fan of Winehouse, Adele, or Fitzgerald, check out a pretty little lady, Melody Gardot. She has a great voice, cute style and impeccable song writing ability. As a bonus, let me provide you with some of my favorite picture of Boo the dog.

Wildfox House Tour

Moving to LA I discovered the part boho, part kitschy, completely comfy line, Wildfox. Donned by most celebrities (Beyonce, Ashley Tisdale, Nicole Richie), some of their sweatshirts are actually somewhat affordable. Their blog provides inspiring images, fun collages and most recently, a house tour of co-owners LA home. Flowers, Bottega Louie, dream catchers, fur and wood floors? Yeah, I get it.
